My Beginnings
I have always loved any visual form of art. As a child I was very into drawing, especially horses. I would spend hours sketching drawings and posting them in my room. In High School I continued my love of art and took regular and advanced classes and entered my art in some shows. Then in College I continued my love of art and took undergraduate courses. I did not feel I had the potential to "make a living" as an artist so my interest changed and my love of children and teaching led me to a Masters Degree in Education.
What does this have to do with photography? Well I also loved taking pictures as a child. I have kept some of my old photo albums where there are pictures of my friends and pets, and of course the horse statues that I lined up in the yard and tried to make them look real. I will never forget my disappointment when I realized I left my camera outside in the rain. The camera was ruined. It was a long time before I received another camera. Mostly because my family could not afford it. I think the camera I had been using was a hand me down from my father who also loves photography.
Fast forward into the future many years...
My husband knew I had a love for photography and encouraged me to purchase a 35mm full sized film camera after we were married. I took some amazing photos of our trips and life for a few years. Then I fell in love with the digital world. I felt so creative being able to change settings and try out new techniques without wasting film. I became very serious about photography once I recieved my first DSLR. Since then I have been researching, asking questions and drinking up any information I can find to better myself as a photographer. I don't feel I will ever know everything so I make time daily to research and learn as much as I can about the art.
Photography is something that I truly enjoy. I get very excited about any opportunity that I can get to create images and a lifetime of memories.
I would say my style is modern, natural and creative. I love to get "up close" and really focus on the eyes. I feel they truly are the window to your soul and can express so much emotion. I am willing to take posed images but my favorite are shots taken "in the moment" where the person or child has forgotten the camera is in front of them.
